Movement, Music & Machines is a creative lab of musicians, dancers and software engineers, founded in 2023 in Stockholm. We build tools and explore methods for generative AI in movement, music and dance performance — and we do it in public, through workshops, hackathons and open experiments.
Generative AI is alarmingly underdeveloped in music and dance, missing out on vast opportunities. While the visual arts have seen a surge in AI-generated content, music and dance have been left behind. This project aims to change that.
“Movement, Music & Machines” is a creative lab of musicians, dancers and software engineers who are building tools and exploring methods that might push the status quo of generative AI and bring a new level of collaboration between music and dance, whilst also challenging the traditional hierarchies between those art-forms.
Our aim is three-fold:
Bring dancers, musicians, and software engineers together, through workshops and hackathons. Fostering cross-disciplinary dialogue around AI, our project serves as a catalyst for deeper understanding and innovative exploration within the realms of art.
Build generative AI tools for tomorrow’s artists — tangible tools and solutions artists can use to create new forms of music and dance, including instruments that treat movement as the prompt.
Democratize the use of AI in music and dance, by sharing the knowledge and tools developed during the project with the wider community.
The project was created by three people from three different disciplines: a mathematician and musician, a dancer, and a music producer turned technology founder.

Halfway through her journey at Stockholm University of the Arts, Mira Buus is a dancer who brings a unique perspective to her craft.
Drawn to improvisation, she unsettles the accepted hierarchy of music over dance and probes the complex ties between language and movement.

Mark has transitioned from producing songs for renowned artists to founding tech startups in FinTech and AI.
With a background in tech ventures at Universal Music and leadership roles at Epidemic Sound, he's dedicated to using technology and the arts to drive positive societal change and foster genuine human connection through expression.
